Stainless steel is commonly selected where corrosion resistance is important, including marine, washdown, food-related, outdoor, or humid environments. The final choice also depends on hygiene needs, wear conditions, and maintenance preference.

304 is a common corrosion-resistant grade for general use. 316 improves chloride resistance for marine or washdown exposure. 420 and 440C can be hardened for bearing contact parts. 17-4PH is used when higher strength is needed in custom components.

No. 316 is better for chloride and salt exposure, but 304 can be enough for mild environments and may be more practical for cost or availability. Load, hardness, corrosion risk, and cleaning conditions should be reviewed together.
